About Gishwati-Mukura National Park

Discover Gishwati-Mukura National Park, Rwanda’s youngest protected area and a testament to the nation’s commitment to conservation. Once nearly lost to deforestation, these two separate forest blocks—Gishwati and Mukura—have been meticulously restored to form a lush montane rainforest ecosystem. It is a place of hope and renewal, recently recognized as a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve.

The park is home to a small but thriving population of Eastern Chimpanzees, golden monkeys, and L’Hoest’s monkeys. For birdwatchers, it is a hidden gem with over 230 recorded species. By visiting Gishwati-Mukura, you are not just enjoying a safari; you are directly supporting one of the most successful forest restoration projects in the world.
