About Twin Lakes (Burera & Ruhondo)
Discover the breathtaking Twin Lakes of Burera and Ruhondo, arguably the most scenic spot in the “Land of a Thousand Hills.” Formed by volcanic lava flow that blocked a river valley, these deep blue waters are nestled against the dramatic backdrop of the Virunga Volcanoes. The views from the connecting ridge are nothing short of spectacular, offering a 360-degree panorama of water and mountains.
The Twin Lakes offer a peaceful escape from the more touristy areas. You can take a traditional wooden boat across the water to visit local fishing communities, hike the surrounding hills for even better views, or simply enjoy a sundowner at a hilltop lodge. It is a place of quiet beauty and stunning photography opportunities that will stay with you forever.
